The newly appointed Emirati Ambassador to Benin, Hazza Mohamed Alqahtani, recently held a working session with Gildas Agonkan, the Minister Delegate to the President of the Republic in charge of National Defence. The meeting served as an opportunity for the diplomat to outline his mission and discuss future bilateral opportunities.

During their discussions, Ambassador Hazza Mohamed Alqahtani praised the strength of the existing military ties and reaffirmed the commitment of the United Arab Emirates to supporting Benin in its ongoing security initiatives.

Benin aims to build a modernized and resilient military force

Minister Gildas Agonkan welcomed the diplomatic visit, emphasizing that this strategic partnership aligns perfectly with the vision of the government of President Romuald Wadagni. The administration is focused on developing a highly professional, resilient, and technologically advanced military capable of addressing modern security threats.

While highlighting Benin’s dedication to working alongside the United Arab Emirates—given Abu Dhabi’s significant geostrategic influence in the Gulf region—the minister expressed Benin’s desire to leverage Emirati military expertise. This collaboration is expected to focus heavily on specialized training, advanced equipment procurement, and technological integration.

Both nations concluded their meeting by committing to sustained joint efforts aimed at fostering regional peace, security, and long-term development.
