Tchad’s digital education transformation gains momentum with stakeholder validation

The Ministry of Higher Education, Scientific Research and Professional Training convened a pivotal national workshop in N’Djamena to validate groundbreaking findings ahead of drafting the country’s first-ever National Strategy for Digital Transformation of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET). This milestone event brought together key sector stakeholders to review, refine and approve a comprehensive diagnostic report that will underpin the future digitalization roadmap for TVET institutions across the nation.

Groundwork laid for nationwide digital education reform

Aligned with the African Initiative for Digital Transformation of TVET Systems—championed by UNESCO, the International Organization of La Francophonie, the African Union, the African Development Bank, the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa and the GIZ-SIFA program—this initiative seeks to fundamentally modernize Chad’s technical and vocational training landscape. The preliminary assessment drew responses from over 200 participants across 57 Technical and Vocational Training Centers and supporting structures, through extensive field missions and digital data collection spanning all academic regions of the country.

Strategic priorities emerge from comprehensive analysis

Addressing participants on behalf of the Secretary of State for Higher Education, Dr. Djininboh Gabriel, Director General of Human Resources, Statistics and Digitalization, emphasized the strategic urgency of digital transformation in aligning education systems with technological shifts and emerging professional demands. He highlighted the government’s commitment to leveraging digital tools as a catalyst for TVET modernization.

The validated analysis reveals both significant progress and critical challenges, particularly in governance frameworks, digital infrastructure, network connectivity, power supply reliability, instructor training and the integration of digital competencies into curricula. Dr. Gabriel urged stakeholders to contribute actively to refining the document, ensuring the development of a pragmatic, inclusive strategy tailored to Chad’s unique context.

Roadmap to 2030: building a future-ready TVET system

Following the workshop, the approved report will serve as the foundation for the National Digital Transformation Strategy for TVET and its operational action plan spanning 2026–2030. The vision is to establish a modern, high-performing technical education system that meets evolving labor market demands and positions Chad at the forefront of digital skills development in the region.
