Government pushes for budget bill revision

The Supplementary Budget Bill (PLFR) 2026 was officially sent to the Finance and Budget Control Committee on October 27 for deeper examination. Finance Minister Cheikh Diba invoked Article 84 of the National Assembly’s Rules of Procedure to justify the delay, emphasizing the need for extended discussions to align differing views.

Parliamentary leadership responds to the measure

National Assembly President Ousmane Sonko acknowledged the government’s request and announced plans to convene the Presidents’ Conference to establish a revised working schedule. The decision follows intense exchanges between the executive and the Finance Committee, with the government prioritizing dialogue to foster consensus.

Institutional approach prioritizes compromise

The government’s move underscores its commitment to institutional dialogue and compromise within constitutional boundaries. With tensions rising over budget priorities, the postponement reflects an effort to ensure broader alignment before finalizing the 2026 financial framework.
