PSG Recruits Lucas Digne: The Former Barca Star’s Shocking Return

Listen now2 min

It’s a transfer that no one saw coming. French international Lucas Digne is set to return to PSG, 10 years after his departure from the club. The former Barcelona star will reunite with several French teammates he previously worked with, including Ousmane Dembélé.

The news was revealed by L’EQUIPE on Monday that Lucas Digne’s transfer clause would be lifted at the end of the World Cup, allowing him to join PSG for a fee estimated to be around €10 million. The 32-year-old will take on the role of Nuno Mendes’ backup and work under the same coach who managed him during his time at FC Barcelona in 2016-17.

According to L’EQUIPE, Lucas Digne had kept the news of his transfer private until he was surrounded by French teammates Ousmane Dembélé, Warren Zaïre-Emery, Désiré Doué, Bradley Barcola and Nuno Mendes at the World Cup. The PSG players reportedly gently warned him about the imminent signing.

Lucas Digne’s arrival is a result of secret negotiations between himself and Luis Campos, the director of player relations for Barcelona. Discussions took place over several weeks before the club decided to accelerate the process once his profile had been fully assessed. Initially, PSG was considering a young player but ultimately opted for the experienced Lucas Digne.
