Mikhail Golovanov brings extensive experience in African affairs to his new role. A graduate of Moscow State Institute of International Relations (MGIMO) in 1982, he has dedicated most of his diplomatic career to the African continent. His postings have included Madagascar, the Republic of the Congo, and Côte d’Ivoire. Most recently, he served as Russia’s Ambassador to Djibouti, with concurrent accreditation as non-resident Ambassador to Somalia. Elevated to the rank of Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary in 2022, Golovanov arrives in Cotonou with deep expertise in African political and diplomatic matters.
