The East Yorkshire side has completed the acquisition of the 21-year-old Senegalese defender, who arrives at the MKM Stadium on a five-year contract with a one-year extension option. While the transfer fee remains undisclosed, club officials confirmed the deal surpasses Hull City’s previous record transfer, which was set earlier this month with the arrival of Greek goalkeeper Konstantinos Tzolakis.

Mendy wasted no time expressing his excitement about joining Hull City, particularly his long-held ambition to compete in England’s top flight. Speaking to club media shortly after the announcement, he said: « I’m extremely happy and proud to be here. »
The young defender continued: « I’m an athletic player who loves defending. I enjoy the game and love getting forward aggressively when needed. Playing in the Premier League has been my dream since I was a child, and I’m ready for this challenge. »
European experience paves the way for Hull City move
Despite his youth, Mendy brings valuable experience from Europe’s top competitions. During his single season in Spain’s LaLiga with Rayo Vallecano, he made 28 appearances and contributed two goals. Even more impressively, this marks his second consecutive year reaching the UEFA Europa Conference League final—first with Real Betis and then with Rayo Vallecano, where he faced top English clubs like Crystal Palace and Chelsea.
International recognition and summer preparations
Mendy’s journey to the MKM Stadium also reflects his rising status in African football. He earned his first call-up to the Senegal national team in March, featuring in a match against Gambia, further solidifying his reputation as one of West Africa’s most promising defensive talents.
His arrival brings Hull City’s summer recruitment tally to eight as they finalize preparations for their Premier League comeback. The Tigers are set to kick off their top-flight campaign at home against Manchester United on August 22.
