The Moroccan government is accelerating efforts to secure the substantial funding required for the Atlantic African Gas Pipeline (GAA), a strategic energy initiative developed in collaboration with Nigeria. Rabat has formally requested financial backing totaling $26 billion from both the United States Export-Import Bank (US Exim Bank) and the World Bank to bring this ambitious project to fruition.

According to Youssef Amrani, Morocco’s ambassador to the United States, these negotiations mark a critical step toward unlocking the necessary capital to advance a pipeline that aims to connect energy resources across West Africa while enhancing regional energy security. The proposed pipeline would stretch along the Atlantic coast, integrating gas supplies from multiple African nations to meet growing demand.

The initiative underscores Morocco’s commitment to positioning itself as a key player in the continent’s energy transition, fostering economic cooperation, and ensuring a stable energy supply for participating countries. With discussions underway at high levels, the project’s success hinges on securing international financial support to overcome the substantial investment required for construction and implementation.
