The Republic of Benin and the Kingdom of Morocco have expressed mutual satisfaction with the progress of their bilateral cooperation during a recent meeting in Cotonou. Both nations reaffirmed their commitment to deepening and diversifying this partnership across multiple sectors.
During preparatory discussions ahead of the co-chairing of the 7th session of the Moroccan-Beninese Joint Cooperation Commission, Moroccan Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita and Beninese Foreign Minister Corinne Amori Brunet—accompanied by Budget Minister Hugues Oscar Lokossou—highlighted significant milestones achieved since His Majesty King Mohammed VI’s 2004 state visit to Benin. The talks also underscored the strong historical bonds and mutual respect between the two nations, including the close relationship between King Mohammed VI and Beninese President Romuald Wadagni.
Both delegations emphasized their shared vision to elevate Benin-Morocco relations into a leading model of inter-African cooperation, built on solidarity, exchange, and shared values. A comprehensive review of cooperation frameworks identified high-potential sectors for expansion, including:
- Economy and trade
- Industry and investment
- Tourism and agriculture
- Justice, security, and vocational training
- Higher education, scientific research, and health
- Digital transformation and cultural exchange
The two countries also reiterated their resolve to foster a robust economic partnership that actively engages the private sectors of both nations. This collaboration aims to drive economic exchanges while mobilizing resources to support sustainable development initiatives.
