A fresh chapter begins for Air Sénégal following the official reception of a Boeing 737-800 in Dakar on 7 September 2026. Named “Gorée”, the newly delivered aircraft marks a critical advancement in fortifying the flag carrier’s network and asserting national aviation sovereignty.

State backing to power aviation ambitions

This major fleet enhancement materialized through direct financial backing from the State of Sénégal, coordinated by the Ministry of Land and Air Transport under the leadership of Abdoul Ahad Ndiaye. Championed by President Bassirou Diomaye Faye, this investment equips the country with aerial resources commensurate with its broader economic, tourism, and international aspirations.

Cabin layout and technical specifications

As a single-aisle jet from the versatile Boeing 737 NG series, the airplane delivers much-needed capacity for short and medium-haul commercial routes. The cabin is configured in a two-class arrangement accommodating 174 travelers, with 12 seats reserved for Business class and 162 in Economy, all outfitted with ergonomic Recaro seating. The aircraft spans 39.5 meters in total length with a wingspan of 35.8 meters, supported by three onboard galleys and three lavatories.

Carrying the legacy of Gorée across borders

Bestowing the name “Gorée” holds profound cultural importance. Listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site since 1978 in remembrance of the transatlantic slave trade, Gorée stands globally as an enduring emblem of memory, human resilience, and dialogue. The aircraft is designed to serve as a flying emissary, carrying this heritage across Africa and global destinations while connecting the homeland with its international diaspora.

Beyond its symbolic resonance, the jet aims to revitalize the Senegalese tourism industry by streamlining passenger arrivals and boosting direct connectivity to key regional and worldwide hubs. Through this induction, the airline consolidates its operational reach, sustains corporate growth, bolsters national air autonomy, and elevates passenger service standards.
