On the occasion of the 27th anniversary of the Throne Day celebrations, King Mohammed VI received a message from US President Donald Trump. In the correspondence, the American leader reiterated Washington’s stance on the Western Sahara dispute and voiced strong backing for Morocco’s autonomy initiative.
The president made it clear that «the United States recognises Morocco’s sovereignty over Western Sahara and supports the Moroccan proposal for autonomy as a serious, credible and realistic framework for a just and lasting solution.»
He warned that «any alternative path only prolongs the status quo,» calling such an approach «unacceptable.» Trump stressed that «this dispute must end now,» pledging that the US would continue to drive progress toward that goal.
In his congratulatory message to the monarch and the Moroccan people, the US president also highlighted «250 years of shared history and enduring friendship between our nations,» describing the bond as «rooted in mutual trust and respect.»
Trump praised King Mohammed VI’s «wise leadership,» calling him «a pillar of stability.» He commended Morocco’s contributions to regional peace, its efforts against extremism, and its commitment to safeguarding security in both countries, particularly through the Abraham Accords.
The American president also announced plans to deepen cooperation aimed at «strengthening security across the Sahel region.»
On the economic front, he directed his administration to «advance economic and social development alongside Morocco, including in the Western Sahara territory.» He pointed to technology, innovation, energy, artificial intelligence, critical minerals and defence as key sectors for collaboration.
«Together, we will build a new era,» Trump concluded, urging a partnership that prioritises the interests of both peoples.
