Sénégal’s Spiritual Leader Emphasizes Peace and National Unity Ahead of Touba’s Grand Magal

The sacred city of Touba is abuzz with anticipation as the nation prepares for the Grand Magal of Touba, set for August 2, 2026—a pivotal event in the Mouride brotherhood’s calendar. On July 30, 2026, the President of the National Assembly, Ousmane Sonko, paid a courtesy visit to the city’s spiritual guide, the Khalife général des Mourides, Serigne Mountakha Mbacké, to reinforce the bonds between faith and governance.

During the meeting, Sonko conveyed deep respect to the religious leader, highlighting the spiritual and historical significance of the Grand Magal, which honors the exile of Cheikh Ahmadou Bamba, the founder of the Mouride movement.
