Among the most talked-about targets was Julian Alvarez, the dynamic forward from Atlético Madrid. However, recent developments suggest the Parisians may have cooled on the Argentine international.
Alvarez’s Barcelona connection shifts PSG’s focus
Insiders close to the negotiations revealed that PSG had indeed initiated discussions with Atlético Madrid regarding Alvarez, among other potential signings. The club was reportedly eyeing Kang-In Lee and Gonçalo Ramos as part of a broader squad overhaul. Yet, despite early engagement, Alvarez’s preference for a move to Barcelona appears to have derailed the Parisians’ plans.
“The two clubs that tested the waters for Julian Alvarez were looking to capitalize on the uncertainty between Atlético Madrid and Barcelona. PSG was among them, exploring options with Kang-In Lee and Gonçalo Ramos. But Alvarez made his stance clear: ‘No, I’m heading to Barcelona,’” a source familiar with the talks explained.
A cooling interest from Paris
Following Alvarez’s declaration of intent, the landscape shifted dramatically. Reports indicate that Arsenal had also explored a potential move for the Argentine but encountered the same response. With both clubs seemingly sidelined, the question now turns to Atlético Madrid’s next steps. For PSG, the once-promising Alvarez track has seemingly lost momentum.
“Arsenal made their move, but the outcome mirrored PSG’s experience. Now, we wait to see how Atlético Madrid will proceed with these clubs. As for PSG, they’ve stepped back. The Alvarez pursuit is no longer a priority for them—at least for now,” a transfer expert noted.
While the door isn’t permanently shut, the likelihood of PSG reviving their interest in Alvarez appears slim in the immediate term. The club’s summer ambitions may now pivot toward alternative targets as they seek to strengthen their squad for the challenges ahead.
