Morocco reaffirms dedication to un peacekeeping missions

Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccan Expatriates, Mr Nasser Bourita, received on Monday in Rabat the UN Under-Secretary-General for Peace Operations, Jean-Pierre Lacroix, who is on his second official visit to Morocco.

Talks between the two sides focused on the crucial role and the substantial, exemplary contribution of the Kingdom of Morocco to United Nations peacekeeping operations.

Morocco’s contribution stems from a strategic royal vision rooted in the continuity of its long-standing commitment to UN peacekeeping, which dates back to 1960.

Morocco, currently ranked ninth among the top troop-contributing countries to UN peacekeeping operations, chairs the UN Peacebuilding Commission (PBC) for the year 2026 and serves as coordinator of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) on peacekeeping issues. This reflects the trust Morocco enjoys within the international community on matters related to international peace and security.

Mr Lacroix’s visit comes at a time when the UN Secretary-General has launched major reform projects, both under the ‘UN 80’ initiative, aimed at simplifying and streamlining the UN Secretariat, and as part of a strategic and comprehensive review of all peacekeeping operations, as well as the international peace and security architecture, with the goal of restoring the primacy of politics in conflict management.
