Talks between the two sides focused on the crucial role and the substantial, exemplary contribution of the Kingdom of Morocco to United Nations peacekeeping operations.
Morocco’s contribution stems from a strategic royal vision rooted in the continuity of its long-standing commitment to UN peacekeeping, which dates back to 1960.
Morocco, currently ranked ninth among the top troop-contributing countries to UN peacekeeping operations, chairs the UN Peacebuilding Commission (PBC) for the year 2026 and serves as coordinator of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) on peacekeeping issues. This reflects the trust Morocco enjoys within the international community on matters related to international peace and security.
Mr Lacroix’s visit comes at a time when the UN Secretary-General has launched major reform projects, both under the ‘UN 80’ initiative, aimed at simplifying and streamlining the UN Secretariat, and as part of a strategic and comprehensive review of all peacekeeping operations, as well as the international peace and security architecture, with the goal of restoring the primacy of politics in conflict management.
