The Malian Armed Forces (FAMA) have declared a decisive shift in the conflict, asserting full control over regions previously targeted by the National Movement for the Liberation of the Azawad (MNLA) in northern Mali and the Group for the Support of Islam and Muslims (JNIM), an Al-Qaeda affiliate, in central and southern areas.

Military operations intensify amid renewed clashes

In a recent official statement, the FAMA confirmed that heavy fighting resumed on Sunday near Anifif, a strategic location 110 kilometers south of Kidal in the northeast. The clashes followed the arrival of fresh reinforcements for the MNLA, prompting a robust response from Malian troops.

The army’s communiqué emphasized the resilience of its forces, stating: « In the face of these coordinated attacks, our units engaged with unwavering determination, sustaining operations throughout the day with discipline and bravery. »*

Statement of confidence and strategic resolve

The Malian military reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding national sovereignty, territorial integrity, and civilian safety. The announcement underscored complete confidence in the FAMA’s ability to neutralize enemy threats and restore stability across the country.

MNLA leadership responds to claims

In a counter-statement, Mohamed Mouloud Ramadan, spokesperson for the MNLA, asserted that the group maintained operational control in Anfif despite the escalation. He categorically denied reports of the death of MNLA leader Mbarek Ag Akli, affirming that the commander remains actively engaged in directing military operations in northern Mali.
