Gabon’s president joins Côte d’Ivoire’s independence celebrations in Abidjan

The President of Gabon, Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema, arrived in Abidjan on Tuesday, August 4, 2026, to attend the festivities marking the 66th anniversary of Côte d’Ivoire’s independence. This official visit underscores the strong bonds of cooperation and fraternity uniting Gabon and Côte d’Ivoire. At Félix Houphouët-Boigny International Airport, the Gabonese Head of State was greeted by Côte d’Ivoire’s Minister of State for Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Nialé Kaba, representing Ivorian authorities. The welcome delegation also included government officials, senior administrative and diplomatic figures, as well as members of the Gabonese community living in Côte d’Ivoire.

Following official protocol for heads of state, President Oligui Nguema received military honors upon disembarking from his aircraft. Gabon’s Ambassador to Côte d’Ivoire, Fabrice Boussougou Boussougou, was among the dignitaries present, alongside numerous Gabonese nationals who turned out to welcome him.
