Ewen Jaouen makes historic move from Reims to Newcastle United

French goalkeeper Ewen Jaouen is set to join English Premier League side Newcastle United after Reims officially confirmed the transfer.

The transfer marks a significant milestone for the 20-year-old shot-stopper, who has risen through the ranks at Reims since joining three years ago. His departure comes after an exceptional debut season in Ligue 1, where he recorded 15 clean sheets—the highest tally across both France’s top two divisions.

The club issued a statement praising Jaouen as “one of the most promising goalkeepers in French football”, highlighting his reflex saves, composure under pressure, and footballing intelligence.

From loan spells to first-team breakthrough

Jaouen’s path to Reims’ first team began with loan spells at Rodez and Dunkerque. At just 18, he became the youngest goalkeeper to start in Europe’s top five leagues and their second divisions. His performances at Dunkerque saw the team reach the Coupe de France semifinals.

A commitment to local development

Beyond his professional achievements, Jaouen remained deeply involved with youth football in the Marne region. He regularly coached young players at AS Gueux and frequently accompanied teams during weekend matches. Local children recently visited him at the Raymond Kopa center for a final farewell before his Premier League move.
