English football has witnessed a historic moment as Chelsea finalised the signing of Aston Villa winger Morgan Rogers, breaking the Premier League transfer record in the process. The 23-year-old attacker joins the Blues for a staggering £117 million, eclipsing the previous benchmark set just days earlier when Elliot Anderson moved to Manchester City for £135 million.
Rogers’ new six-year contract, extendable by a further 12 months, makes him the most expensive English footballer in history. The young starlet expressed his excitement over the move, stating: “I’m absolutely thrilled. Chelsea is the biggest club in London and the one I’ve admired since childhood.”
Arsenal had also been monitoring Rogers’ progress, adding an extra layer of competition to the deal. Chelsea’s willingness to pay the record fee underscores their ambition to reclaim domestic and European dominance.
The transfer fee translates to approximately €137 million, cementing Rogers’ status as one of the most sought-after talents in world football today.
