Chad has successfully facilitated the return of 162 of its citizens from Benghazi, located in eastern Libya, an operation carried out with the vital assistance of the International Organization for Migration (IOM). This coordinated effort, overseen by Chadian consular authorities, also included an important awareness campaign. The initiative aimed to inform the Chadian community residing in Libya about legal residency requirements and the inherent dangers associated with irregular migration pathways.

A group of 162 Chadian nationals has arrived back in N’Djamena, following a voluntary return operation from Benghazi, eastern Libya. This initiative was meticulously coordinated by the Chadian government with robust backing from the International Organization for Migration (IOM). Accompanying this crucial repatriation, a comprehensive sensitization drive was launched to educate migrants on legal residency stipulations in Libya and to highlight the perils linked to unauthorized migratory journeys.

These 162 Chadian citizens reached N’Djamena as part of a structured voluntary return scheme originating from Benghazi. The entire operation was orchestrated by the Chadian government, specifically through its Consulate General in Benghazi, and benefited significantly from the support of the International Organization for Migration (IOM), as detailed in a statement released recently by the organization. This framework aligns with ongoing efforts by Chadian authorities to extend aid and support to citizens encountering difficulties during their stays abroad.

In conjunction with this repatriation mission, consular services conducted various informational sessions for Chadian nationals living in Benghazi. Discussions primarily focused on the regulations governing foreign residency in Libya, alongside the considerable risks associated with irregular migration. The clear objective was to better equip members of the Chadian community with knowledge, thereby reducing their vulnerability and encouraging adherence to legal provisions. Chadian authorities present this repatriation as a key component of their broader commitment to protecting citizens residing outside the country. They have indicated that further support operations may be organized with the cooperation of international partners, aiming to address the evolving needs of Chadian citizens settled overseas.
