crackdown on human trafficking ring exploiting job seekers in Cameroon
Under the guise of network marketing firms, the suspects dangled lucrative overseas employment opportunities before young job seekers, only to ensnare them in a sophisticated trafficking scheme.
Posing as legitimate network marketing companies, the suspects lured desperate job seekers with promises of high-paying positions abroad. Their operations came crashing down when gendarmerie units swooped in to dismantle the human trafficking ring.
Thirteen individuals linked to a human trafficking and fraudulent recruitment network were unveiled to the public on June 22, 2026, at the National Gendarmerie headquarters in Yaoundé. The briefing was conducted by Deputy Director of Central Coordination for the National Gendarmerie, Atangana Fiacre Kisito.
The group, operating under names like QNET, IGNITE, and UNIMEC, specifically targeted students, unemployed youth, and job seekers, offering them false employment opportunities overseas. Two alleged ringleaders, believed to be hiding in the Congo and the Central African Republic, remain at large as the investigation expands across multiple Cameroonian cities.
