Burkina Faso’s digital road safety initiative: early success for e-verbalisation

Burkina Faso’s Minister of Security, Mahamadou Sana, has observed the significant effectiveness of the new electronic traffic enforcement system, known as e-verbalisation, merely twelve hours after its official launch. This innovative system, designed to automatically detect road code violations, commenced operations precisely at midnight on August 1, 2026. By noon on the same day, Minister Sana was present at the Video Protection Supervision Center, alongside Zakaria Hebie, the Director General of Transmissions and IT, to monitor the real-time processing of infractions.

Swift impact of the e-verbalisation system

The Minister commended the technical teams for their exceptional professionalism, acknowledging their pivotal role in successfully implementing this technological advancement. Within its initial twelve hours, the system recorded an impressive 1,099 infractions. These included common violations such as failing to wear a seatbelt, disregarding traffic lights, exceeding speed limits, and using a mobile phone while driving. Notably, five offenders had already settled their fines through the dedicated FASO ARZEKA platform, highlighting the system’s immediate functionality and the efficiency of digital payment solutions in African current affairs.

Mahamadou Sana affirmed that these early results unequivocally demonstrate the system’s operational readiness and underscore the government’s unwavering commitment to leveraging digital technologies to enhance road safety across the nation.
