The President of Chad, Mahamat Idriss Déby Itno, issued a stern warning on social media, vowing to intensify efforts against a growing threat. «We will continue this fight with renewed determination until this menace is completely eradicated,» he declared in a post on Facebook, following a recent assault on a military base.
Just a day before the President’s statement, a faction of the Islamist militant group Boko Haram launched a deadly attack on the Barka Tolorom military outpost, situated along the Chad side of Lake Chad. The assault resulted in the loss of 24 soldiers, underscoring the persistent danger posed by the extremist organization.
