Bénin 2060: investing in science and technical education for future growth

Initiated by the National Education Council (CNE), a three-day consultative assembly is set to take place in Cotonou from 5 to 7 August 2026. The forum, centered on scientific, technological and professional training pathways, will convene government officials, educators, private sector representatives, technical partners and civil society stakeholders. The primary objective: shaping the future of Benin’s education system to align with long-term national development goals.

Driving industrial and digital transformation through education

The gathering, hosted at the Golden Tulip hotel, will explore strategies to enhance student enrollment in science, technology and vocational fields. Discussions will focus on how these disciplines can support Benin’s industrial and digital transformation, fostering innovation and economic resilience. Participants will exchange insights on improving learning outcomes and aligning educational priorities with the national vision for 2060.

The assembly brings together 69 members from public and private sectors, including government leaders, university representatives, international partners and civil society organizations. Together, they will assess progress on past recommendations and propose actionable measures to strengthen the education system.

Strategic role of the National Education Council in shaping Benin’s future

CNE Secretary-General Clément Chabi emphasized the council’s role as a national dialogue platform for education stakeholders. He highlighted the critical link between educational investment, youth development and technological sovereignty, stating that sustainable growth depends on a skilled and competitive workforce.

CNE President Noël Ahonangnon Gbaguidi underscored the council’s mandate to define national education policies, coordinate sector-wide initiatives and monitor policy implementation. He noted that the assembly will review operational reports and financial statements before issuing recommendations to enhance educational performance.

The three-day deliberations will culminate in a strategic roadmap for advancing science and technology education. While specific implementation details remain under discussion, the CNE’s commitment to fostering innovation and digital readiness remains a central pillar of Benin’s long-term development strategy.
