Willy Mengue asks Equinoxe TV for balanced coverage after Mamadou Mota interview

Willy Mengue, the leading voice opposing Maurice Kamto’s return to the presidency of the Cameroon Renaissance Movement (MRC), calls on Equinoxe Television to restore equilibrium in its news coverage.

This demand for balanced reporting concerns the political party, especially after Vice-President Mamadou Mota appeared on the programme “La Vérité en Face” on Sunday evening.

In Mengue’s view, this step is essential to guarantee “fairness in news treatment,” “the pursuit of journalistic truth,” and “the public’s right to information.”

“Without a direct debate between the two factions, there is an urgent need to organise a substantial right of reply on the programme dedicated to the contested return of Professor Maurice Kamto at the head of the MRC. You chose to give the floor to my political friend Mamadou Mota on this pertinent issue; the quest for truth demands that you extend the same service to the protesters, whom I represent,” wrote Willy Mengue in an open letter to the CEO of Equinoxe TV.

On Sunday evening, Mamadou Mota defended Kamto’s comeback to the party leadership — a move Willy Mengue firmly challenges, describing it as a “fraudulent return.”

“Equinoxe TV is known as ‘the people’s channel that reports beyond the image.’ Your coverage of the tampering with the MRC’s founding texts to facilitate the fraudulent return of a former party leader will be fair and equitable only if this demanded right of reply is granted. The Cameroonian people are watching you on this matter,” Mengue added.
