In Rome, where the FII PRIORITY Europe 2026 summit is taking place from June 17 to 19, the Togolese Prime Minister, Faure Essozimna Gnassingbé, championed a renewed economic partnership between Africa and Europe. As the guest of honor at this forum dedicated to European competitiveness, the Togolese leader underscored his country’s ambition to serve as a regional logistics hub, pivotal in reshaping global value chains.

FII PRIORITY Europe Summit: Prime Minister Gnassingbé takes center stage in Rome

On Wednesday, June 17, 2026, Faure Essozimna Gnassingbé, Prime Minister of Togo, addressed delegates at the FII PRIORITY Europe summit, held at the Waldorf Astoria Rome Cavalieri. Arriving in the Italian capital the day before, the Togolese Prime Minister was invited by Yasir ben Othman Al-Rumayyan, Governor of Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (PIF) and President of the FII Institute, the event’s organizer.

Europe-Africa partnership: Togo positions itself as a gateway for investments

The summit, themed “Europe Reimagined: Capital, Sovereignty, and Strategic Autonomy,” brought together heads of state, investors, and economic leaders to explore financing mechanisms for reindustrialization, supply chain resilience, and workforce transformation in an AI-driven economy. Organizers projected a 1.2% growth rate for the eurozone in 2026, with the potential to mobilize an additional €800 billion in private investments over the next decade.

In his address, the Togolese Prime Minister emphasized the untapped potential of Africa-Europe economic ties. With some of the world’s fastest-growing economies, Africa is emerging as a prime destination for investment flows, infrastructure development, and regional integration. Togo, he noted, is determined to capitalize on this momentum by leveraging its status as a regional logistics leader.

The country highlighted the strengths of its Lomé Autonomous Port, the expansion of integrated industrial zones, and ongoing reforms to enhance the business climate—all aimed at attracting more foreign direct investment (FDI) and strengthening trade corridors linking Togo to its hinterland.

« A natural gateway to West Africa’s hinterland, fostering shared growth, » declared Faure Essozimna Gnassingbé, Prime Minister of Togo.

Regional connectivity: Togo’s bold push for economic integration

This visit to Rome is part of a high-profile week for Togolese economic diplomacy. Just three days earlier, the Prime Minister inaugurated the first African Air Transport Convention and Exhibition in Lomé. These coordinated efforts reflect Togo’s commitment to making connectivity—whether port-based, air, or digital—a cornerstone of its national development strategy.
