According to the Universal Mediator and leader of the Independent Commission Against Corruption and Discrimination (COMICODI), as well as the Popular Movement for Dialogue and Reconciliation (MPDR), the survival of Cameroon must take precedence over all individual interests, tribes, or social circles.
A fundamental question regarding the survival of the nation, the state, and the republic
In our current political climate, no citizen can be considered above the law. Before any major government restructuring or the introduction of a vice-presidency can be effective, there must be a thorough cleansing of the political arena. The corruption is deep-seated, and the public’s expectations for accountability are significant.
The primary challenge we face is deciding whether to settle for superficial changes involving toxic actors recommended by harmful influence networks, or to strive for a country anchored by robust institutions and led by individuals of genuine integrity, patriotism, and loyalty.
It is likely that no head of state has ever navigated a situation as intricate and hazardous for their country’s future as Paul Biya is currently. While he assumed power with a platform of honest intentions, he cannot be held solely responsible for the various crises currently afflicting Cameroon. Throughout his four decades in power, he has shown an incredible level of perseverance and tolerance, even when faced with blatant betrayals by those in his inner circle. This issue goes beyond the nation’s wealth; it concerns the very fabric of our society.
To assume that resolving these issues is simple or just a matter of swapping actors is to misunderstand the complexities of Cameroon and its elite. It is becoming increasingly clear that patience and long-term sacrifice have become central to the President’s strategy. Time will eventually reveal the path forward and identify those truly capable of meeting the nation’s pressing needs.
The scale of the task ahead is immense, as evidenced by the shocking requests from newly appointed officials, such as a board chairman demanding over one hundred million to renovate a private residence. This highlights the gravity of the situation and why the President is taking time to reflect. Jumping into a “basket of venomous crabs” without careful consideration could jeopardize the fertile foundations of the republic.
The President is currently processing these disappointments and managing his anger to ensure the safety of future generations. In this pursuit, there is no room for tribalism, favoritism, or clan-based politics. There is only Cameroon, and its eternal existence is the only goal. While some claim that time is running out, the destiny of a nation is built through sustained patience and sacrifices that may seem unthinkable to some. This is an existential challenge for the nation and the state. In the end, he who laughs last, laughs best.
