Psg’s 130m euro diomandé transfer bid sparks debate

With ambitions to secure a historic third Champions League title, Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) is eyeing a high-profile addition to their attacking ranks this summer. Among the shortlisted targets is Yan Diomandé, the promising Ivorian international currently plying his trade at RB Leipzig. However, convincing the German club to part ways with their prized asset won’t come cheap—in fact, it could set PSG back by a staggering €130 million.

While PSG manager Luis Enrique prepares for potential departures, the club’s focus remains on reinforcing their squad. Diomandé, whose performances have caught the eye of Europe’s elite, has also drawn interest from Liverpool, intensifying the competition for his signature. Yet, RB Leipzig’s valuation of the player at €130 million has left many questioning the sanity of such astronomical transfer fees.

“these figures have lost all meaning”

Yan Diomandé’s price tag has sparked strong reactions, including from journalist Karim Bennani, who voiced his concerns on a prominent sports show. “These figures have lost all meaning,” Bennani remarked. “I watched Sweden’s match and saw Isak, who cost Liverpool €150 million. What value does that even hold anymore? And think about the pressure on the player—remember what happened to Kolo Muani at PSG after a €90 million move? Or Ramos? Back then, Zidane’s €75 million transfer seemed extraordinary, and now we’re talking about €130 million for Diomandé.

a long-term investment for psg?

Former PSG defender Benoit Trémoulinas weighed in on the potential signing, offering a more measured perspective. “Is €130 million justified for Diomandé? Probably not, given today’s transfer culture. But he’s a player who could grow and fit seamlessly into PSG’s system. Luis Enrique sees potential in him, and he’s rarely wrong. Around €100 million might be more realistic.
