Djed Spence set for Inter Milan debut after successful medical in Italy
Milan arrival signals imminent Inter Milan deal completion
The 26-year-old English international touched down at Milan Malpensa Airport late Thursday, where he was greeted by club officials ahead of his scheduled medical tests. The transfer, valued at an initial €31.5 million with performance-related bonuses that could push the total to €35 million, was confirmed after months of negotiations between the two European giants.
Tottenham Hotspur retained a 10% sell-on clause as part of the agreement, while Spence’s personal terms were finalized without complications. The move marks the end of his four-year stint in North London, where he made 85 senior appearances and contributed to the Europa League triumph in 2023.
World Cup performances convinced Inter Milan hierarchy
Spence’s impressive showing at the 2026 FIFA World Cup—where he featured prominently for England in their third-place finish—played a pivotal role in securing the deal. Inter Milan had been actively seeking a high-quality replacement for departing right-back Denzel Dumfries, who joined Real Madrid earlier this summer.
The London club’s decision to sanction the transfer came as no surprise. With Pedro Porro cementing his position as first-choice right-back and Andy Robertson providing top-tier coverage on the left flank, Spence’s opportunities for first-team football had dwindled significantly under new manager Roberto De Zerbi.
Proven Serie A experience boosts Spence’s profile
His brief but impactful loan spell at Genoa in 2024 provided invaluable exposure to the tactical demands of Italian football. Now, as he prepares for his second stint in Serie A, Spence will face the challenge of proving himself in one of Europe’s most competitive leagues.
The medical examinations on Friday represent the final hurdle before the defender can officially join Inter Milan at San Siro. Once cleared, he will immediately begin integrating with his new teammates and preparing for the upcoming Serie A campaign.
