PSG’s Russian connection gains momentum
The summer 2024 arrival of Matvey Safonov at PSG for a reported €20 million from Krasnodar has sparked fresh ambitions within the club’s hierarchy. The Russian goalkeeper, initially slated as backup to Gianluigi Donnarumma, has defied expectations by overtaking Lucas Chevalier—recruited for €55 million last season—to secure the number one jersey. Barring any setbacks, Safonov will step between the posts for PSG‘s Champions League final against Arsenal on May 30.

Luis Campos targets new Russian prospects
The unexpected success of the Safonov deal has set Luis Campos on a broader exploration of the Russian football market. Aleksey Batrakov, a 20-year-old attacking midfielder, has emerged as a prime candidate. With 17 goals and 12 assists in 35 appearances for Lokomotiv Moscow this season, his performances have caught the eye of PSG‘s sporting director. Reports suggest Campos himself may have traveled to Moscow to engage in preliminary talks. Vladimir Kuzmichev, Batrakov‘s agent, confirmed these developments, stating: «I have information that he or one of his closest associates will visit Moscow soon to primarily liaise with the club.»
PSG set to reinforce midfield with Russian talent
PSG‘s recruitment drive could extend further with interest in Matvey Kislyak, a 20-year-old midfielder from CSKA Moscow. Described as a perfect tactical fit for Luis Enrique‘s system, his potential arrival would offer strategic flexibility amid uncertainty surrounding Lee Kang-in‘s future. Already a regular starter for his club, Kislyak has contributed six goals and six assists in 28 league matches this season. His contract runs until 2029, but his rising profile has made him an attractive proposition for top European clubs.
