Pierre Emmanuel Binyam, a prominent figure in the Cameroon Renaissance Movement (CRM), shed light on Maurice Kamto’s controversial departure from the party to join the National Movement for Democracy and Development (Manidem) and pursue a 2026 presidential bid—a candidacy ultimately rejected.
« Maurice Kamto’s departure from the party wasn’t a resignation in the sense of abandoning his political roots. We tasked him with a mission. Now, after recent events, he has returned, and we’ve urged him to complete his mandate, » Pierre Emmanuel Binyam explained.
Binyam emphasized that the rejection of Maurice Kamto’s candidacy dealt a severe blow to party members.
« The disqualification of Maurice Kamto’s candidacy left deep scars. We were profoundly affected, especially since all polls projected him as the overwhelming favorite—both nationally and internationally, » he added.
