Cameroun is accelerating its infrastructure modernization drive, focusing on roads, railways, urban networks, and airports to enhance economic competitiveness.

To implement this vision, a two-day workshop was held on June 24-25, 2026, to present feasibility studies for establishing a Land Transport Regulatory Agency (ARTT) and developing the National Logistics Strategy (SLN) along with a 2035 action plan.

The event brought together key figures including Mbamome Nkendong Divine, Director of Road Transport (DTR), Claude Misse Ntone, Director of Rail Transport (DTF), along with a team from Idea Consult International/TRT Studi Cameroun, representatives from partner administrations, and financial institutions like the World Bank and African Development Bank.

In his opening remarks, the DTR emphasized the need to carefully examine the preliminary findings from these studies, whose results will guide the next phases of these critical projects. Consultants presented detailed summaries of their research, highlighting key insights.

Findings indicate that the ARTT would be headquartered in Yaoundé, initially focusing on road transport before expanding its mandate. The agency’s launch is projected to require an initial investment of 260 million XAF, covering institutional framework setup, office facilities, and essential IT infrastructure.

The National Logistics Strategy study provides a comprehensive analysis of Cameroon’s logistics landscape, identifying strategic challenges, opportunities, and objectives. It proposes an eight-pillar action plan, with rail infrastructure investments estimated at 40 billion euros, alongside the creation of a National Logistics Council to coordinate interministerial efforts and arbitration.

Following the presentations, the Director of Road Transport commended the quality of contributions and productive discussions. He urged all stakeholders to maintain their commitment to advancing these transformative initiatives that will shape the future of Cameroon’s land transport sector.
