Senegal’s Pastef Party Congress: Ousmane Sonko poised for leadership renewal

The Pastef party is finalizing preparations for its upcoming congress, marking the official launch of candidate submissions for the party leadership.
The High Authority for Party Regulation (HARP) has announced that candidate files can be submitted from May 15, 2026, at midnight to May 20, 2026, at noon.
The regulatory body also stated that candidate declaration forms will be made available to those aspiring to lead the party.
This process aligns with the party’s congress preparations, a critical milestone in strengthening Pastef’s organizational structure and political influence.
While the internal election is widely anticipated, Ousmane Sonko, the party’s central figure and longstanding leader, is expected to be reappointed as its president following the congress.
This leadership renewal comes as Pastef consolidates its position after securing political power and prepares for future policy initiatives.
