Morocco praised for proactive migration management role in Africa

Morocco stands out as a key player in managing migration flows

In a recent assessment from Washington, Moroccan-American scholar Mohamed Daadaoui highlighted the Kingdom’s pivotal role in preventing and controlling irregular migration. The academic emphasized that Morocco has positioned itself as a responsible regional actor and a trustworthy international partner, thanks to its forward-thinking policies that have earned global recognition.

Regional cooperation versus unilateral burden

Daadaoui underscored the effectiveness of Morocco’s joint initiatives with Spain, particularly in dismantling human trafficking networks and conducting high-stakes rescue operations at sea. However, he cautioned against over-reliance on Morocco alone to address the continent’s migration challenges. “While Morocco can secure its borders, it cannot single-handedly resolve the broader issue of irregular migration,” he noted, stressing that transcontinental migration flows require collective solutions.

Strengthening ties with Europe for sustainable solutions

Concluding his remarks, Daadaoui urged European policymakers to address the root causes driving migration, including socio-economic inequalities. He reiterated that successful Mediterranean migration governance hinges on closer collaboration with Rabat. “Effective migration management in the region depends heavily on a strong partnership with Morocco, a reliable and credible ally,” he concluded.
