The Minister of Environment and Sustainable Development of the Islamic Republic of Mauritania, Messouda Bahama Mohamed Laghdaf, arrived in Libreville on an official mission to present Mauritania’s candidacy for the post of Secretary-General of the International Organisation of La Francophonie (OIF).
Carrying a message from His Excellency Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani, President of Mauritania, she was received by Gabon’s transitional leader Oligui Nguema to formally introduce the candidacy. The delegation underscored a strategic vision built on three pillars: coherence, balance and pragmatic utility for member states.
During the meeting, the Mauritanian envoy highlighted the deep-rooted solidarity and mutual respect that underpin relations between Mauritania and Gabon. Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral cooperation, particularly on shared continental challenges.
Oligui Nguema reiterated Gabon’s unwavering support for consensus-based and inclusive governance, principles that guide the country’s foreign policy. The visit reflects Gabon’s proactive diplomacy, aiming to expand African partnerships while championing an efficient, dynamic Francophonie centered on co-development.
