Nasser Bourita, Morocco’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccans Residing Abroad, engaged in high-level diplomatic meetings in Amman with his counterparts from Bahrain and Jordan. These discussions took place on the sidelines of the Arab League’s ministerial council sessions, focusing on bolstering bilateral alliances and addressing pressing regional security challenges.

The Moroccan delegation included Fouad Akhrif, Morocco’s Ambassador to Jordan, Mohamed Aït Ouali, Morocco’s Permanent Representative to the Arab League, and Khalid Bencheikh, Director of Maghreb Affairs at the Foreign Ministry.

Strengthening Morocco-Bahrain partnerships

During his meeting with Bahrain’s Foreign Minister, Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani, Bourita emphasized the importance of coordinated efforts to ensure peace and stability across the Arab world. The two ministers reviewed the deep historical ties between Rabat and Manama, identifying new avenues for collaboration in key sectors aligned with Morocco’s foreign policy priorities.

Morocco-Jordan joint roadmap for end-2024

Bourita also held talks with Jordan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Ayman Safadi, to finalize preparations for the sixth session of the Morocco-Jordan High Joint Commission. Scheduled for late 2024, this meeting will be co-chaired by both countries’ foreign ministries. The ministers agreed to develop an ambitious agenda to elevate bilateral relations to a higher strategic level.

Both discussions highlighted the urgency of enhancing political consultation mechanisms to navigate today’s complex geopolitical landscape. Morocco’s proactive engagement in these bilateral and multilateral forums underscores its commitment to fostering stability and cooperation in the region.

Morocco’s role in Arab League discussions

These bilateral meetings followed Bourita’s participation in the consultative session of Arab foreign ministers and the 165th regular session of the Arab League Council. The engagements reinforce Morocco’s active role in shaping multilateral dialogue across the region.
