Mali army claims renewed control over key conflict zones

The Malian Armed Forces (FAMA) have declared a decisive shift in momentum, asserting full operational dominance over contested territories targeted by coordinated offensives from the National Movement for the Liberation of Azawad (MNLA) in the north and the Group for the Support of Islam and Muslims (JNIM), an Al-Qaeda affiliate, across central and southern regions.

According to an official statement issued by FAMA, sustained clashes persisted on Sunday in Anifif, a strategic locality situated 110 kilometers south of Kidal, following the arrival of fresh reinforcements for the MNLA. The military emphasized that its troops engaged in intense, disciplined combat throughout the day, demonstrating unwavering resolve in the face of escalating pressure.

The announcement reaffirmed the army’s unshaken conviction in its capacity to safeguard Mali’s territorial sovereignty, protect civilian communities, and dismantle hostile forces threatening national stability.

In a contrasting claim, a spokesperson for the MNLA, Mohamed Mouloud Ramadan, had asserted control over Anifif following the resumption of hostilities. He further refuted rumors of the death of the movement’s leader, Mbarek Ag Akli, affirming that the commander remains actively engaged in overseeing field operations across northern Mali.
