Bamako recently hosted a vibrant reception marking the 27th anniversary of Morocco’s Throne Day, an event that highlighted the deepening economic cooperation between Mali and Morocco. Moroccan diplomats and Malian officials gathered to reflect on the progress achieved through bilateral initiatives that prioritize mutual growth and shared development.

Diplomatic Ties Deepen Through Shared Vision

Thierno Amadou Omar Hass Diallo, a former minister in Mali, emphasized the remarkable trajectory of Morocco’s engagement across Africa, particularly in the Sahel region. He noted that “Morocco’s dynamic approach to regional relations, especially the recognition of its territorial sovereignty over the Sahara, has fostered stronger bonds with Mali and other neighboring nations.”

Abou Djitteye, a Moroccan-trained professional, expressed his pride in the flourishing relationship between the two countries. “Seeing the strength of this partnership gives me confidence in our shared future,” he remarked, extending warm wishes to His Majesty King Mohammed VI for continued success.

Morocco’s Diplomatic Leadership Shapes Africa’s Future

Driss Isbayène, Morocco’s Ambassador to Mali, underscored the strategic importance of South-South cooperation under the guidance of His Majesty King Mohammed VI. “Our approach is built on solidarity, mutual respect, and tangible projects that directly benefit the people of Africa,” he stated. He also highlighted the significance of 2026 as a milestone year for Mali–Morocco relations, noting that “the withdrawal of Mali’s recognition of the SADR in April opened new opportunities, culminating in last week’s high-level joint commission meeting.”

Abdoulaye Diop, Mali’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, praised Morocco’s unwavering support for Mali and the AES Confederation. “This 27th anniversary is a moment to celebrate the solidarity that strengthens peace, security, and development across our region,” he said. He also commended the Royal Atlantic Initiative, a visionary project aimed at enhancing Sahelian nations’ access to the Atlantic Ocean.
