Innov Finance’s pivotal Abidjan launch signals new era for West African SME financing

Côte d’Ivoire’s financial sector just witnessed a game-changing moment with the official inauguration of Innov Finance in Abidjan. The landmark ceremony, held at the prestigious Sofitel Abidjan Hôtel Ivoire on October 23, 2026, marked more than just a ribbon-cutting — it represented the dawn of a new financial inclusion movement across West Africa.

From official launch to financial revolution

The event brought together Côte d’Ivoire’s highest authorities, including First Lady Dominique Ouattara, State Minister Nialé Kaba of Foreign Affairs, and Planning Minister Souleymane Diarrassouba, all lending their patronage to this financial innovation. This wasn’t merely about starting operations; it signaled a fundamental shift in how mid-tier businesses would access capital moving forward.

Founded as a licensed microfinance institution in April 2026, Innov Finance had already begun operations on July 14, 2026, operating under the regulatory framework of the West African Monetary Union’s Central Bank (BCEAO).

A fresh approach to business financing

Positioned strategically between traditional microfinance and conventional banking, Innov Finance targets a critical gap in the market — businesses too large for microloans but still struggling to secure traditional bank financing. The institution serves a diverse clientele including:

  • Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs)
  • Small and medium industries (SMIs)
  • Micro-enterprises (TPEs)
  • Professionals and salaried individuals
  • Women entrepreneurs

Women-led businesses receive special attention as part of the institution’s commitment to national economic empowerment.

Revolutionary financial products for modern businesses

Innov Finance offers a comprehensive suite of financial solutions including savings products, term deposits, and digital banking services. Its flagship offering, the « Invoice Advance » facility, allows SMEs to convert outstanding customer invoices into immediate working capital — a game-changer for cash flow management and growth financing.

The institution’s operational philosophy is captured in its motto: « Innovating with absolute simplicity. » This encapsulates four core values:

  • Accessibility: Breaking down financial barriers for all business sizes
  • Speed: Rapid loan processing and disbursement
  • Customer commitment: Building lasting partnerships
  • Trustworthiness: Transparent and responsible financial practices

Leadership with deep financial roots

A strong vision requires strong leadership. At the helm is Bintou Bayo, Founder and CEO, whose 35 years of experience in banking, finance and insurance positions her perfectly to lead this initiative. As President of Côte d’Ivoire’s Organization of Women Economists and Financial Professionals (OFEF-CI) and recipient of the National Order of Merit, Bayo brings both expertise and credibility to the role.

« We’re not just another financial institution, » Bayo explains. « We’re redefining what business financing should look like — simple, fast, and accessible to those who’ve been traditionally underserved by mainstream banking. »

The board is chaired by Patricia Poku-Diaby, a prominent business leader and advocate for women’s economic empowerment across Africa, whose strategic insight strengthens Innov Finance’s mission.

Building momentum for West African economic growth

The high-profile launch ceremony brought together government officials, financial sector representatives, technical partners, entrepreneurs and diplomatic corps members. This gathering wasn’t just ceremonial; it marked the beginning of a coordinated push to:

  • Enhance financial intermediation across West Africa
  • Improve access to business financing
  • Fuel economic expansion within Côte d’Ivoire and the UEMOA zone

With this strategic launch, Innov Finance isn’t merely establishing a new financial player — it’s spearheading a financial revolution that could reshape how businesses throughout West Africa access the capital they need to thrive.
