Gabon ambassador outlines new diplomatic roadmap for Tunisia ties

In a recent conversation with our editorial team, Pierre Ntsiet Ngolo, Gabon’s Ambassador to Tunisia, outlined his strategic diplomatic agenda following his appointment in March 2024 and the formal presentation of his credentials to Tunisian President Kaïs Saïed on November 6, 2025. A seasoned diplomat, Ntsiet Ngolo reaffirmed his unwavering commitment to deepening bilateral relations between Gabon and Tunisia, with a strong focus on safeguarding the interests of Gabonese nationals residing in Tunisia.

The newly established diplomatic and consular mission in Tunisia has already prioritized fostering unity within the Gabonese diaspora. Mirroring successful models from other Gabonese communities worldwide, two key frameworks have been launched to enhance solidarity and collaboration among the estimated 1,000 Gabonese citizens in the country—including students, trainees, professionals, and families.

Gabonese community in Tunisia

The first, the Gabonese Community Council in Tunisia (CGTT), unites the entire diaspora around core values of mutual aid, equity, and fraternity. The second, the Association of Gabonese Students and Trainees in Tunisia (AESGT), specifically supports the educational and professional journeys of Gabonese youth in the country.

«The tangible unity and cohesion within our community were vividly demonstrated during the inaugural Gabon Cultural Days held on April 24–25, showcasing our collective strength in solidarity and brotherhood,» Ntsiet Ngolo remarked with satisfaction.

Strengthening bilateral cooperation

Academic cooperation remains a cornerstone of GabonTunisia relations, with a significant number of Gabonese students and trainees pursuing education in Tunisian universities. However, many face administrative hurdles, particularly in renewing residency permits due to delays in tuition fee payments.

«I urge the families and the National Scholarship Agency of Gabon to take swift action to address these challenges, ensuring our compatriots are not unfairly burdened by Tunisia’s stringent immigration policies,» the Ambassador emphasized.

Healthcare cooperation also ranks high on the agenda. A partnership between Gabon’s National Health Insurance Fund (CNAMGS) and Tunisian medical evacuation providers leverages Tunisia’s world-class medical expertise and infrastructure to benefit Gabonese citizens.

«Our mission extends beyond diplomacy—it’s about consolidating existing achievements while forging new partnerships that align with the developmental aspirations of both nations. This involves strengthening dialogue with institutional partners and prioritizing economic diplomacy,» Ntsiet Ngolo explained. «We must explore mutually beneficial collaborations in areas where both countries possess unique expertise, fostering co-development and shared prosperity.»

Economic diplomacy takes center stage

«Economic actors from both nations are pivotal to this vision, embodying a sustainable Pan-African approach with shared prosperity at its core. The upcoming economic missions led by Tunisian operators are a promising step, expected to yield investment agreements and strategic partnerships,» he added.

Since assuming his role, Ntsiet Ngolo has also introduced enhanced consular assistance mechanisms for Gabonese residents, addressing long-standing concerns about neglect. «The positive response from the community underscores the importance of this initiative,» he concluded.
