FC Nantes handed empty stadium sanction after pitch invasion in Ligue 1 clash
The French Football League’s disciplinary committee has imposed a firm sanction on FC Nantes: a match behind closed doors at the Beaujoire stadium, followed by a two-match closure of the Loire stand after the disturbances that marred the final Ligue 1 fixture against Toulouse.
The FC Nantes will avoid point deductions to start their Ligue 2 campaign. The disciplinary committee of the French Football League (LFP) has decided to impose a match behind closed doors at the Beaujoire stadium, accompanied by a two-match closure of the Loire stand. The committee also confirmed the score as it stood when the match against Toulouse was definitively halted on May 17 (0-0).
Before the final whistle in the 34th and last matchday fixture, Nantes supporters invaded the pitch and sparked clashes to protest the club’s relegation to Ligue 2. The referee subsequently halted the game.
