Football: Nantes handed empty stadium game after Toulouse incidents
Following the disturbances that cut short the final Ligue 1 clash between Nantes and Toulouse on matchday 24, the French football authorities have delivered their verdict: the Canaries must play one game next season behind closed doors.
The anticipated ruling has arrived for FC Nantes. After ultras stormed the pitch on 17 May at the start of the Canaries’ final Ligue 1 fixture against Toulouse—sparked by the club’s relegation to Ligue 2—the LFP’s disciplinary board ruled today, imposing a definitive empty-stadium ban for one match.
No points deduction
The authorities also confirmed the 0-0 scoreline as the official result at the moment play was halted.
In addition to the full stadium closure, the Loire stand—which was the epicentre of the unrest—will remain shuttered for the next two fixtures.
Yet Nantes dodged a far harsher penalty: the club faced the prospect of a points deduction for their upcoming Ligue 2 campaign, but that sanction has been avoided.
