Dakar gears up for Macky Sall and Diomaye Faye meeting on friday

Former Senegalese President Macky Sall is set to arrive in Dakar this friday for a brief visit, marking his first return to the capital since stepping down from office two years ago.
The visit comes as Sall actively campaigns for the United Nations Secretary-General position, a role currently held by António Guterres. His bid requires formal endorsement from Senegal, a step he has yet to secure despite submitting his candidacy in February.
In March, officials in Dakar clarified that neither the government nor the state had initiated or supported Sall’s candidacy. Yet, the political landscape may shift following his upcoming meeting with President Bassirou Diomaye Faye.
The encounter follows rising tensions between Faye and his former Prime Minister, Ousmane Sonko, while calls for accountability over past governance issues under Sall’s administration gain momentum.
