Côte d’Ivoire leads in African economic policies with top honors

Abidjan, May 22, 2026 — The Builders of the African Economy platform has unveiled its 20th-anniversary laureates, recognizing nations across the continent for their outstanding public policies and sectoral achievements that have fueled economic and social progress.

A new category for transformative public policies

This year’s edition introduced a special category to honor African countries that have made significant strides in key sectors through effective governance and strategic initiatives. The selection process was rigorous, led by an independent jury of African economists, policymakers, and journalists.

The jury evaluated candidates based on four core criteria: the tangible impact of public policies, economic performance, sectoral advancements, and contributions to African integration. These benchmarks ensured that only the most impactful and sustainable models were celebrated.

The awards also spotlighted transformative efforts beyond economic metrics. Namibia received accolades for its gender equality and women’s empowerment programs, while Ghana was commended for its diaspora engagement strategies, fostering continental unity. Morocco earned a 20th-anniversary special prize for its sweeping reforms across multiple sectors.
