In Sénégal, the Parti Kiiraay Les Patriotes Républicains has leveled serious accusations against former Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko. The political party claims that Sonko, between 2025 and 2026, allegedly utilized approximately 3.7 billion FCFA from the special account designated for “Jamm pour la Paix en Casamance” without providing adequate justification. The party asserts that these expenditures deviate significantly from the fund’s original purpose, which is to support peace initiatives in the Casamance region.

A communiqué released on August 25, 2026, by the Parti Kiiraay Les Patriotes Républicains specifically criticized the management of these special funds. The political organization contends that Ousmane Sonko spent 3.7 billion FCFA from the “Jamm pour la Paix en Casamance” account during the specified period, yet failed to offer a transparent and detailed account of how these substantial sums were used.

The party highlights that the former Prime Minister reportedly cited expenses such as vehicle acquisitions and renovations of the administrative building as explanations for some of these costs. However, Kiiraay argues that these particular operations bear no relevance to the fundamental objectives of the fund, which is explicitly dedicated to fostering peace in Casamance.

For the Parti Kiiraay Les Patriotes Républicains, this situation raises fundamental questions regarding the consistency of the government’s commitment to transparency and accountability. The party emphatically stated, “Transparency is applied with varying standards,” emphasizing that all public funds should be subject to the same rigorous demands for justification, regardless of the individual or office responsible for their management.

These recent allegations from the Parti Kiiraay Les Patriotes Républicains follow a significant ruling by the Constitutional Council. The Council had previously deemed unconstitutional a law, passed by the PASTEF-dominated National Assembly, that aimed to control special funds. As of now, former Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko has not yet publicly responded to these specific accusations made by the ruling party.
