Complaint against Ousmane Sonko over Touba remarks upheld before investigators

The legal complaint filed against Ousmane Sonko concerning statements about the holy city of Touba remains active. This was confirmed by Serigne Makhtar Bousso, spokesperson for the complainants, who was heard this Tuesday as part of the proceedings.

The case stems from a request submitted to the public prosecutor on July 14, 2026, by Serigne Modou Maroun Niang and Serigne Mourtalla Bousso. The two plaintiffs, who identify as grandsons of Cheikh Ahmadou Bamba, accuse the President of the National Assembly of making remarks during the inauguration of the Pastef headquarters in Mbacké. Sonko allegedly claimed that illicit funds had entered the holy city of Touba.

The complainants argue that these statements could damage the honor and reputation of Touba, a city founded by Cheikh Ahmadou Bamba on principles of religious devotion and integrity. They are calling for the author of the comments to explain their meaning and provide evidence to support them. Serigne Makhtar Bousso reiterated this demand, insisting that full clarity must be brought to the remarks targeting the religious city.
