Chad steps up fight against human trafficking

Chad is ramping up its battle against human trafficking, with a sharp focus on protecting women and children through stricter enforcement of existing laws. A circular has been dispatched to security and judicial officials nationwide, underscoring the urgency of this crackdown and outlining mandatory measures to combat the crime.

The trafficking of individuals remains one of the most flagrant human rights violations, often involving sexual exploitation and forced labor. As a signatory to the United Nations Convention against Transnational Organized Crime since 2009, Chad has reinforced its legal framework with key instruments like Ordinance No. 006/PR/2018 and Law No. 12/PR/2018 to dismantle trafficking networks.

Under the new directives, law enforcement and judicial bodies are required to expedite investigations, document violations through formal reports, and ensure cases are promptly transferred to relevant courts. All findings must be reported to the General Secretariat of the Ministry of Justice and the National Commission Against Human Trafficking for meticulous follow-up and record-keeping.

The provincial delegates have been tasked with overseeing strict compliance with these measures. The initiative aims to establish a comprehensive national database, providing authorities with critical insights to refine strategies and policies in the ongoing fight against human trafficking in Chad.
