Chad’s government is doubling down on efforts to eradicate human trafficking, with a sharp focus on protecting women and children. A recent circular has been issued to security and judicial leaders, reinforcing the urgency of these measures and outlining specific actions required to combat the scourge effectively.

Human trafficking remains one of the most egregious human rights violations, often involving sexual exploitation and forced labor. Since ratifying the United Nations Convention against Transnational Organized Crime in 2009, Chad has strengthened its legal framework, including Ordinance No. 006/PR/2018 and Law No. 12/PR/2018, both designed to tackle this pervasive issue.

Under the new directives, authorities are mandated to conduct swift investigations, compile detailed reports, and ensure all cases are promptly transferred to the appropriate courts. Each reported incident must also be reported to the General Secretariat of the Ministry of Justice and the National Anti-Trafficking Commission for rigorous follow-up.

Provincial delegates have been tasked with ensuring strict compliance with these guidelines. The overarching goal is to establish a national database that will serve as the foundation for a robust, data-driven anti-trafficking strategy in Chad.
