Cameroun: government confirms President biya’s health status and governance continuity

Amid persistent speculation about the health and whereabouts of President Paul Biya, the Cameroonian government has moved to dispel rumors regarding his alleged absence or demise. Speaking on behalf of the administration, René Emmanuel Sadi, Minister of Communication and government spokesperson, has categorically denied any power vacuum or vacancy at the helm of the state.

President Biya, who has been in Switzerland for at least 56 days, is confirmed to be alive and fully in charge, according to official statements. During a press briefing, Minister Sadi addressed concerns about the President’s prolonged stay abroad, emphasizing that his absence does not equate to a leadership crisis.

Official reassurance amid health and return timeline uncertainties

The government spokesperson acknowledged that President Biya underwent a medical procedure but clarified that he is not currently hospitalized. While the exact nature of the intervention remains undisclosed, Sadi stressed that the Cameroonian state’s institutions continue to operate without disruption. Regarding the timing of President Biya’s return to Cameroon, the government has yet to provide a definitive date.
