The National Superior Police Academy in Porto-Novo recently inaugurated a series of advanced preparatory courses. This significant event, held on Wednesday, May 14, 2026, marks the commencement of training for the Higher Security Studies Certificate (Bess), the Staff Diploma for Security Forces (Demes), and the Special Staff Diploma for Security Forces.
This formal induction represents a pivotal moment in bolstering the capabilities of Bénin’s internal security agencies. Inspector General of Police, 2nd Class, Kokou Brice Allowanou, who serves as the Director General of the Republican Police, presided over the ceremony. The gathering saw the attendance of various dignitaries, including high-ranking military officials, political and administrative leaders, senior Republican Police personnel, and prominent academics.
Police Divisional Commissioner Gilles Yekpe, the Director of the National Superior Police Academy, outlined the core objectives of these extensive training programs. He emphasized their role in preparing participants for assuming elevated responsibilities within the security sector. Commissioner Yekpe highlighted the crucial need for trainees to cultivate a forward-thinking perspective on national, sub-regional, and international security challenges.
« For this particular session, the National Superior Police Academy has brought together highly qualified instructors, experienced national and international speakers, and a dedicated pedagogical support system geared towards your success. The curriculum will notably cover topics such as police strategy, human and operational resource management, leadership, and both internal and cross-border security issues », he stated.
Inspector General of Police Kokou Brice Allowanou underscored the rigorous demands of these ongoing training initiatives and the high expectations placed upon these prospective senior security force leaders. « These courses offer an invaluable opportunity to enhance your professional competencies, foster your leadership acumen, and prepare you for the significant responsibilities awaiting you in the future », he asserted. He further exhorted the trainees to approach their studies with unwavering rigor, discipline, and dedication.
The ceremony concluded with a compelling inaugural lecture delivered by the Dean of the Faculty of Law and Political Science at the University of Parakou. The address focused on the critical theme: « Rule of Law, Republican Police, and Security Challenges ».
