Benin’s prominent opposition faction, « Les Démocrates », officially extended its republican felicitations on April 14, 2026, to the newly elected duo, Romuald Wadagni and Mariam Chabi Talata. Their message acknowledged the pair’s successful election to the nation’s highest office. This political entity, standing in opposition to President Patrice Talon’s administration, conveyed its heartfelt wishes for the incoming government even before their official assumption of duties.

In a communiqué dated April 14, 2026, the opposition group « Les Démocrates » formally congratulated the president-elect and his running mate on their victory, marking a significant moment in Benin’s political landscape.

The communiqué explicitly stated: « The provisional results, as declared by the Autonomous National Electoral Commission (CENA), clearly indicate your DUO as the overwhelming winner of the presidential election held on April 12, 2026. Although the ‘Les Démocrates’ party was excluded from this electoral process, we acknowledge these outcomes and offer our sincere republican congratulations on your election to the supreme magistracy of our nation. »

The political organization, currently under the leadership of President Atchadé, articulated a set of aspirations for the new occupants of the esteemed Palais de la Marina.

« Remaining steadfast in our commitment to democratic principles and peace, we express our fervent hope that your mandate will prioritize national unity, foster social justice, facilitate the re-establishment of an inclusive democratic environment, and ensure the meticulous respect for fundamental freedoms. This, we believe, necessitates the release of political detainees, the safe return of political exiles, robust political consultation, development strategies centered on human dignity and social progress, and the comprehensive restoration of individual liberties, » urged the « Les Démocrates » party.

Concluding its statement, the party affirmed its readiness to engage in constructive dialogue and to propose pertinent alternatives whenever deemed necessary for the advancement of Benin.
