Benin’s cabinet establishes new monthly meeting schedule and strategic priorities

Under the leadership of Head of State Romuald Wadagni, the inaugural Council of Ministers for the 2026-2033 septennate convened on Thursday, May 28, 2026. This pivotal session established the overarching strategic directions that will guide government action over the coming seven years.

During the gathering, the Beninese President underscored the government members’ core duty: to serve the public interest with unwavering rigor, responsibility, and exemplary conduct. He articulated a vision where governmental operations would be anchored in principles of sobriety, integrity, solidarity, and accountability, aiming to deepen the trust between the state and its citizens.

Key priorities for this seven-year mandate include a dedicated effort to combat extreme poverty, narrow social and regional disparities, and bolster national security. The administration is committed to fostering more balanced development by ensuring a more equitable distribution of public investments across the entire territory of Benin.

The inaugural Council of Ministers also endorsed a revised operational framework for the Executive branch, designed to enhance the coordination of public action and accelerate decision-making processes.

A significant change implemented is the new meeting schedule: the Council of Ministers will now convene for its ordinary session every first Wednesday of the month. Furthermore, the Inter-ministerial Committee is slated to hold two monthly sessions, occurring on the first and third Mondays. Cabinet Councils, conversely, will be organized as dictated by the specific requirements of individual ministerial departments.

With this foundational Council session, the Beninese government for the 2026-2033 septennate officially embarks on its operational phase. Its comprehensive roadmap emphasizes institutional discipline, robust performance, and a dedicated commitment to addressing societal expectations.
